Small scale excavations were carried out in the Cistercian Abbey
at Boyle, County Roscommon, Ireland, during 1984 by the Office of Pubic Works
(OPW) to expose the plan for the north cloister arcade close to the aisle. The
aisle wall was found to be approximately one meter high with a doorway leading
into the cloister arcade. None of the store work, which the arcade was
constructed from, was found. The east wall of the west range was also exposed,
bound by a stone built drain which ran under the nave and was a key part of the
original 13th century design (see final image). Some of picture of the church,
undated, show the general decay the that church has fallen into before the
reconstitution work happened.
