Boston Museum of Fine Art. Limestone funerary relief of Mmia and Koartilla from the Roman Imperial Period in Syria (Euphrates region) dating to 70-100 AD. The inscription reads "Mmia, too soon, farewell; Koartilla farewell". The relief would have been placed within a family tomb. The mother, Koartilla, is wearing a turban-like Mesopotamian costume, her hair is covered by the turban which is covered by a head-cloth. Her daughter, Mmia, holds a festive wreath and wears her hair braided in a local fashion. She also has jewellery hanging on her forehead - which was a common fashion in the Roman empire during the second half of the 1st century AD.
