St. Menas

Pottery flask, decoration in relief showing St. Menas flanked by two camels.

Flasks were sold to pilgrims who visited shrines as receptacles for holy water. These are relatively common finds because of the number produced. Coptic period c.4th century AD. Manchester Museum, UK.
