The arches in the Cistercian Abbey of Corcomroe, County
Galway, Ireland, are not arranged symmetrically north and south. The east
end of the building is distinguished by the high quality of its stonework
work but progressed beyond the transepts a serious deterioration in quality
occurred and also the church was shortened by an intrusive wall effectively
making the western end of the church outside of the sacred zone. Note that
walls of the arches are usually parallel but at Corcomroe they taper the higher they go.
