The Cistercian Abbey at Sweetheart, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, has a variety of different window styles which reflect stylistic developments over a period of time. The more decorative windows generally date to the 14th century when it was repaired and re-built after a lightening strike and a resulting fire. The re-building wasn't totally successful and some of the windows needed to have their tracery removed and masonry inserted to provide much needed structural support. The lower windows are know as 'eyebrow' and the different styles used demonstrate that the building was completed over long period of time and that techniques and preferences changed.
