Picture 262001 1

Red granite figure of Sobekemsaf I, 17th Dynasty about 1630 BC.

This is one of the few royal statues surviving from then 17th Dynasty.  The King's name is inscribed on the throne-front, and an apotropaic motif with figures of the goddess Ipi decorates the rear.  There are dowel-holes in the eyebrows for the fixing of applied overlay and for the securing of inlays in the eye-sockets.
