Female figure, Pre-Dynastic Naqada II or Naqada III, thought to originate from Nubia.

Certain details of the figure (attenuated limbs, pinches waist, large lower abdomen, hips and buttocks) also appear in earlier Nubian figures. The linear markings could represent some form of body decoration such as tattooing. The sculpture's purpose is not known although the stylization suggests ideas of fertility and re-birth.
