Ishtar Fragment

In ancient Babylon, Ishtar was known as the goddess of love; to the people of Judea as Ashtoreth to the Persians as Anasts; to the Phrygians as Cybele; to the Greeks as Astarte, Demeter and Aphrodite; and to the Romans as Venus. Many temples were built in her honour throughout the region. She was believed to descend to the underworld to rescue her lover, who came back to  life in the spring.
